The aggressively designed
Race-r Pro is Shark’s super racing helmet. Worn by several motoGP and WSBK
rider, the topline helmet of Shark is a raise of the bar which is also very
quiet compared to the PistaGP. The shape of the Race-r pro is super aerodynamic
and super light-weight (just over 3 pounds) specifically built for the head
down racing position. The 6 air intakes and 7 extractors are unseen on any
other race helmet. The ventilation system avoids any fog flowing around in the
helmet. The extractors enable an extraordinary ventilation which is one of the
first things you notice immediately when you try on this premium helmet. The
Race-r pro is the most advanced shell ever built by Shark. The multi-composite
shell is made of aramid/carbon fiber/ fiber glass.
The AGV Corsa is a
true race helmet. Its distinctive shape and aggressive lines make it stand out
from a design's perspective. One of the main reasons why it has been so popular
is because the Corsa looks exactly the same as the PistaGP - AGV's first
full carbon helmet coming on the market in 2013. While AGV's secret marketing
weapon Valentino Rossi boosting sales with several designs: Corsa Soleluna,
Corsa Turtle, Corsa Wintertest. AGV changed over 12 criteria compared to the
previous topline helmet – the GP Tech. Improvements were made from an
aerodynamics standpoint with the new spoiler. The vision angle of the visor was
widened with 9° in a racing position. Compared to other helmets, the
ventilation on the PistaGP is quite impressive. But the main improvement are
the aggressive lines of this helmet. The spoiler eliminates 44% of drag. The only
con is the PistaGP cannot be worn without earplugs, not unless you are looking
to damage your hearing.
The rpha10 is HJC’s
super premium race helmet. Compared to the PistaGP and the Race-r Pro it fits a
little more round. The rpha 10 has approximately the same weight as the Race-r
pro. One of the key innovations is the way the chin vents work, with a far better
functioning ventilation and the increased user-friendliness. Very nice and soft
fabric used in the cheek pads.
The GP500 is
probably the most comfy wearing helmet of this top 5. The helmet is the super
light-weight premium helmet of Airoh. The Airoh is comparable to HJC for it
rounder shape, unlike the race-r pro and the corsa with have a far sharper
shaped shell. One of the main benefit compared to its rivals is the extraordinary
noise control on this helmet. Tested in the wind tunnel and fine-tuned by
Dovizioso make it the ultimate racing helmet. The display of the Ducati logo is
for many ducati riders a big plus.
The X Spirit II is
the top line premium race helmet of Shoei. The X spirit is a true race helmet
and has a more oval head shape. The noise control on the X Spirit II is
impressive but the first thing you notice when trying it on is the super
light-weight. The visor change system is very user-friendly and quick to release
and click. The shape of this helmet is comparable to the Race-r pro. The air ventilation
is quite ok, but compared to the Race-r pro you might expect from it. Shoei is
together with the Airoh also the most comfy wearing helmet and can be
considered a more all-round helmet.
